i’ve been spooting on about how this book that i found yesterday is racist, and complaining that i hadn’t seen anything addressing its racism, even though the author is popular on tumblr and her books are talked about pretty regularly. but, it’s not fair of me to sit around and complain that nobody’s talking about it, when i am perfectly able to do it myself.

g-psy is a racial slur.

“It’s derived from the misconception that they (originally) migrated from Egypt, and continuing to push its usage in modern societies erases the known history of these people. What wasn’t known then is known now – the origins of these ethnic groups are Indo-Aryan, not Egyptian. (source: http://staticnonsense.wordpress.com/2010/11/23/hey-vama-why-do-you-misrepresent-the-roma/)”

persecution against the roma is not something that is relegated to the past, it is something that is still happening around the world today.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/tv-radio/bbc-says-gypsy-is-a-racist-word-says-comic-1792428.html

these are just a few examples that i found.

the roma were victims of the holocaust, they were slaves, they are still forced out of their homes and victims of hate crimes.

stereotyping them as ~mystical wanderers~ adds to the racist culture that dehumanizes them and allows and encourages their oppression.

dosta! is a campaign by roma to fight the stereotypes and oppressions that they face, to try and educate people about their history and the oppressions that they face today.

roma-phobia is a real prejudice that exists in the world today, and stereotyping roma as women with “clever hands” adds to the belief that roma have a genetic predisposition to criminal activities.

“Stereotypes abound, referring to the "genetic propensity for crime,” and the media reinforces racism by regularly identifying the ethnicity of Rom suspects. In 1993, Jozsef Pacai, the mayor of the Slovak village of Medzev said, “I’m no racist, but some Gypsies you would have to shoot.” Since 1989, progrom and mob attacks against Rom neighborhoods have been reported in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, and the Czech and Slovak Republics, coupled with deliberate non-intervention by authorities. Institutional racism is evident in police brutality and court prejudices. Support me in the National Network for Abortion Funds Bowl-a-Thon!

As I mentioned earlier this week, I’m participating in a fundraiser to support the National Network of Abortion Funds, which is an AMAZING group that helps people pay for abortions who wouldn’t be able to afford them otherwise. And I need your help, Tumblr! My team, the 7-2 Split*, is totally lagging on our fundraising goal (*we changed the name - a friend gently pointed out that it could be interpreted as making light of child abuse, which was obviously not our intent. I apologize to anyone who was hurt by my thoughtlessness.)

If you donate, send me a screenshot and I’ll publish it with a celebratory gif. I know there are many, many worthy causes out there, but saving someone’s life by preventing them from having to get a back-alley abortion is a pretty important one. An early-stage, no-complications abortion costs $350-500, not including things like the cost of traveling to the clinic and missing work. The price ramps up as the pregnancy progresses, and many women are left scrambling after they raise the funds for the initial procedure and then find out they waited too long and it will cost more. If you’re a young woman (or person of another gender identity in possession of a uterus), you may need the NNAF some day, so think of this as an investment in your future. Bonus: donations are tax-deductible!

And if you can’t donate - or if you can but you want your followers to know about this awesome cause - please SIGNAL BOOST this post!

reminder that this is how stfuc responded when called out on their shitty child abuse joke which triggered a bunch of victims

This is a half-assed apology dropped in the middle of a post so that nobody will notice that they fucked up. This is them erasing abuse victims. This is them not giving a shit about anyone but themselves. This is unacceptable from someone who plays at being a visible anti-oppression activist.

this is how stfuconservatives actually reacted, not the sunshine and wildflowers bullshit that she’s pretending.

she responded by blaming victims for their own “upset” and for not caring about women as much as her.

i did not get “upset”. there is a huge world of difference between “upset” and triggered.

i was triggered by your joke. i was not the only person, the only survivor of child abuse, who was hurt by it.

this apology hidden inside of a masturbatory post about stfuc’s greatness as an activist is unacceptable.

NYC PSA

Clouds still needs a home! His person isn’t home enough for him and is giving him up. Clouds is a young, bilingual, polydactyl Puerto Rican. He is an indoor cat and has no health problems.

We’re seriously considering taking him if nobody else will, or at least fostering him till we can find him a forever home.

A couple of people ask-boxed me about Clouds after my first post but I never heard back. If you are seriously interested in adopting him, please talk to me.

Cat ladies and gents, please reblog!

Thank you.

here is a screencap of the team name and tumblr post, in case it gets accidentally lost (aka deleted to save face).

y’all wanna see the ‘wire hangers’ quote in question

No… wire… hangers. What’s wire hangers doing in this closet when I told you: no wire hangers EVER? I work and work ‘till I’m half-dead, and I hear people saying, “She’s getting old.” And what do I get? A daughter… who cares as much about the beautiful dresses I give her… as she cares about me. What’s wire hangers doing in this closet? Answer me. I buy you beautiful dresses, and you treat them like they were some dishrag. You do. Three hundred dollar dress on a wire hanger. We’ll see how many you’ve got if they’re hidden somewhere. We’ll see… we’ll see. Get out of that bed. All of this is coming out. Out. Out. Out. Out. Out. Out. You’ve got any more? We’re gonna see how many wire hangers you’ve got in your closet. Wire hangers, why? Why? Christina, get out of that bed. Get out of that bed. You live in the most beautiful house in Brentwood and you don’t care if your clothes are stretched out from wire hangers. And your room looks like some two-dollar-a-week furnished room in some two-bit back street town in Okalahoma. Get up. Get up. Clean up this mess.

It’s not even a line about abortion. It’s about fucking dresses. You’re taking a line from a monologue in which a character verbally abuses their child and turning it into an activist slogan and naming your bowling team or what the fuck ever after it and don’t think there’s anything wrong with this picture. What the actual fuck is wrong with you.

this is the only (private) defense that they have offered. that we should know them well enough to excuse their joke, that it’s the victims fault for not prioritizing WOMEN WHO COULD BE MURDERED over children who are/have been abused.

i was triggered so hard by the initial joke that i spent yesterday and last night with nasty flashbacks and nightmares, and all they can say is that theoretical women are more important, that abuse victims don’t matter as much as their joke (that we obviously only object to because we don’t understand it because we’re just stupid baby victims anyways).

this is unacceptable. this is oppressive, victim-blaming bullshit, and it should not be tolerated from someone who has been put on a pedestal as some sort of paragon of good, anti-oppression activism.

posts like this are obviously more important than addressing the fact that you triggered victims of child abuse with your funny joke. obviously.

you’re just a pathetic joke yourself, i shouldn’t expect you to have defense for your actions.

go cry into your fucking chalkboard, you’re nothing more than glenn beck with a tumblr.

stfuconservatives can eat shit.

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

anyways i’m sure they’ll post their usual “it wasn’t my fault! i didn’t know that it’s hella fucked up to mock abused children! i thought it was just a jokeyjoke!” bullshit so who cares

but if you’re friends with them, and you saw that shit and you let it slide because “eh who cares”

or if you reblogged that post, and thought “eh who cares! it’s for a good cause!”

fuck you extra hard

my pain and my trauma is not a joke for you shitholes

you’re not supporting me and women like me, women who were abused, if you’re making jokes about our trauma.

child abuse doesn’t stay in your childhood. it doesn’t end when you hit adulthood. it factors into every aspect of your life, and influences your actions and your politics in every way.

if your feminism is based around mocking and shaming abuse victims, then your feminism is bullshit.

you can’t only support women who are just like you, even if you are a big name cool guy piece of shit.

how many times is stfuc going to fuck up and hurt people before they realize that maybe, just maybe, they should step off of the pedestal they’ve climbed on?

they’ve hurt woc, disabled people, and now abuse victims. are they seriously trying to go for a perfect score of shittiness and marginalization?
